I haven’t
posted a personal blog in over a year so I thought writing about #MyDowntownWishList
initiative would be an easy way to get back into it again. I will be sharing with you
what I learned about Charlottetown merchants while creating my shopping list
for friends and family. Of course I will also include products that I absolutely
love and some I will be putting on my list for Santa ;)
Have you
heard of the “#MyDowntownWishList” ?
It's a holiday initiative of Downtown
Charlottetown Inc. a non-profit organization with the mandate to work with
businesses to create and maintain a vibrant downtown through an established
Business Improvement Area.
Downtown
Charlottetown includes the area between Prince and Pownal Streets and from
Euston Street to the Water. I recently learned that when you buy local 67% of
your dollars stay in Charlottetown, when you buy from a chain store 32% stay local and sadly when you buy online (as convenient as it is) 0% of your money
stays in your community.
This is
the third year for Downtown Wishlist initiative, and this year is definitely the easiest process
to participate. To enter the contest, take a photo of something you like from a
Downtown Charlottetown store and post it on Twitter, Instagram and/or Facebook
with the hashtag #MyDowntownWishlist and the name of the store (make sure you set
your post setting to public). You will then be entered into a random draw for a
$100 pre-paid Visa card so you can make your purchase. Downtown Charlottetown
will do a random draw every weekday from December 1st to December 24th
(that’s seventeen $100 pre-paid MasterCards to be given away).
From December 1st to 24th, I will be blogging about the shops I visited, sharing their specialties and unique facts as well as posting some photos of my favourite items.
Here is a little map of the downtown area as a visual:

you waiting for? Get snapping photos of your favourite things :)
